Information Security Analyst | A Career Overview

In recent times we have seen that the dependence on information networks and computers has increased drastically globally. All the information of a company is stored on these systems and forms the backbone of any organization. However, such reliance on technological systems has also increased the vulnerability of this stored information. There have been increased attacks and attempts to steal sensitive information and therefore the definition of information security is an attempt to protect and secure such data.

What does an information security analyst do?

An information security analyst is a person who is employed to prevent any malicious attacks or any attempts to steal sensitive information. He usually protects such data by using various protection technology such as secure servers, and firewalls. They also are involved in identifying the weak points in the security systems and making efforts to strengthen them so that the servers are full-proof.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with users to discuss the weak points in the data systems and identify security threats and violations and make necessary changes.
Analyze the security breach in the systems and identify the root cause.
One has to perform both internal and external security audits.
Monitoring the security access of the organization.
Keeping the company’s security systems up to date and creating documents for all security-related information.

Qualification and skills required:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, programming or a related field. An MBA in information systems is an added advantage.
Must have an experience of at least 3 years in computer security systems.
Must have a back for problem-solving and must have good analytical skills.
Must have good attention to detail.
Thorough understanding of computer security systems including firewalls, encryption, etc.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary statistics:

The salary of an information security analyst varies across industries and on the experience of the individual. However, the starting salary of a fresher can be anything between 5LPA and 6LPA and can go up to 24 LPA for experienced individuals.
